27–29 November 2026 | The Backlot Perth
The inaugural Perth Korean Film Festival is coming to The Backlot Perth this November. Across three days, audiences can discover five Korean films, ranging from Bong Joon-ho’s acclaimed crime classic Memories of Murder to historical drama, science-fiction thriller and supernatural horror.
Created by Festival Directors Suzanne Worner and Dr Susie Conte, the festival draws on their experience across film festivals and screen culture, as well as Susie’s connection with Korea spanning more than 30 years.
More than a series of screenings, the festival offers a welcoming place for Perth’s Korean community, film lovers, students, creatives and anyone interested in Korean culture to come together through stories on screen. By presenting both contemporary productions and landmark films, it celebrates the breadth of Korean cinema while strengthening cultural connections between Korea and Australia.
The Korea Research & Engagement Centre is proud to support this new community-driven celebration of Korean film and culture.

KRC team members Eldin Milak, Temarah Smith and Haiqing Li joined festival organisers and community partners for a preview screening of Lee Chang-dong's Possible Love (가능한 사랑).
This collaboration takes Korean learning beyond the classroom. Students will be able to encounter Korean cinema, meet members of Perth's arts community and take part in conversations about Korean culture. KRC and the festival organisers will continue exploring ways for students to become involved.
The Korea Research & Engagement Centre is supported by the Academy of Korean Studies. KRC also thanks Fay Duda for her support of the festival.
